If you landed here, you might be suspecting there is something wrong with the church today. And there is. Something gravely wrong indeed. Something so wrong that church attracts all kinds of evil while pushing away people who genuinely care to live a decent life. You are here because you recognize that something is terribly awry. But don't expect an answer you will like. The reason for the sickness in the church is not what you will want to hear and you will likely want to close off immediately. This will be the very reaction that leads to continuing the sickness. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that most evil comes from a lack of willingness to listen--the desire to label any contradicting thought as heretical and "stupid" so as to close off reason. This is not the way of good, this is the way of arrogance, pride, and evil. To seek what is right, one must always be willing to listen to all sides and slowly make a determination from a rational mind over an outraged and emotional mind simply because it doesn't align with currently held beliefs. This is the first and foremost problem with the church today: unwillingness to listen.
Listen to who or what? Anything and everything. Most churches today spoon-feed a particular message and deem all those who disagree as heathens made for eternal torment in a fiery lake. This, of course, closes off minds to listening to alternative ideas. And with thousands of denominations and even other religions, how is one to truly know what is right save for God coming down directly and telling us what's what? Even then, how does one know it is God and not some evil demon bent on misleading us? The main point is, we need to determine "what" we believe in far sooner than we decide "who" we believe in. This is why a name was not given to Moses early on. A set of principles were far more useful than a name which can easily be corrupted. One can corrupt what "Bawb" wants, but it is far harder to corrupt "don't murder people, please." And corruption is exactly what has happened. People today serve a name, Jesus, but it is not the same Jesus that walked the earth. It is a Jesus that has been carefully crafted for manipulation of the masses and control by fear. To know the real Jesus, one must first decide "what" they believe in as opposed to "who." If God is love, and if Jesus preached God/Love, then we can easily determine what the true characteristics of Jesus really were and what the true message really was. Everything should align with Love.
Hermeneutics are the method by which we interpret things like the Bible. If we have a particular understanding to start with, we will interpret things one way versus another. A simple example would be a statement such as "Susie's results from the doctor came in and it's positive!" With a predefined belief that Susie is someone who died of cancer, we will interpret the statement as one of sadness and grief. If we believe from a preconceived idea that Susie gave birth to a child, we will interpret the news as good and that she is pregnant. If some context is missing, we cannot properly understand the statement and we will interpret it solely with our preconceived ideas. So if we first decide that God is love rather than God is "Bawb who said and did X, Y, Z and if you don't believe you will be eternally tormented," you will find that you interpret the writings far differently. Give it a shot, and see what I mean!
In the book, Christians Are Revolting, many insights are revealed into the sickness of the church. It is quite the interesting read and worth checking out if indeed one wishes to know more about the ways that Christians are revolting against their God. The rabbit hole goes deep and indeed it was foretold to occur. The wheat and the weeds have grown together. Are you wise enough to distinguish the difference between a God of love and a religion based off the Pharisaical traditions Jesus fought to destroy?
